About

A descendent of Ngāi Tahu, and a motley crew of colonial convicts and whalers from Kaikoura and the Marlborough Sounds, Alex was born and raised in central Auckland. The origins of his storytelling trace back to childhood obsessions with Tintin, Choose your own adventure books, Matchbox cars and Chekoslovakian surrealist stop-motion animation.

Now an experienced Auckland-based film and commercial director, Alex brings a deep understanding of cinematic genre and storytelling to his work. His directing spans TV commercials, branded films and advertising campaigns, where he expresses ideas, brands and products with style, action and humour. With the audience always firmly in mind, Alex’s filmmaking creates memorable images and highly engaging performances from actors, kids, animals and cars alike.
