About

Fernando is happiest when making films driven by strong emotional storytelling and authentic performances. As a director, he strives to create work that blends compelling narrative with striking visuals and technical excellence.

With extensive experience in visual effects, Fernando was at the helm of Bluebird’s iconic 'Free the Bird' campaign and the follow-up Better Way to Fly – Dave the Goose series for Air New Zealand. These projects highlight his ability to collaborate with world-class creative specialists and deliver visually ambitious campaigns.

Not content with excelling behind the camera alone, Fernando completed a two-year theatre studies programme to experience the craft from the performer’s perspective. This insight has shaped his directing style, giving him a deeper understanding of working with actors and guiding authentic performances.

Well-versed in New Zealand’s advertising industry, Fernando has worked both agency-side at True and Colenso BBDO and production-side as a director and director of photography. His work spans short films, television commercials, music videos and long-form television productions.

His directing credits include campaigns for Air New Zealand, New World, Adidas, Mainland and Spark. Passionate about tourism, sport, not-for-profit causes and strong character-led stories, Fernando is particularly drawn to projects that create meaningful impact for people and the environment.
