Production In NZ Through COVID-19

With the global impacts of Covid-19 our production industry is changing fast and we all need to adapt. For advertising projects, location is everything and thankfully in New Zealand we have film locations that the world is envious of. Travel between countries through 2020 has a very different outlook to how we would usually operate. For most ad productions, we would normally see agency, client and director fly to their shooting location to shoot abroad. The future of offshore production is coming and Reel Factory is ready to handle it. New Zealand borders are closed to international travellers for an unforeseen amount of time, however our production industry is operating as strong as ever. Our rivers are still flowing, grass is greener than ever and our beautiful locations abnormally quite – it’s the perfect time to base your next production in New Zealand!

In the last few months, we have had more and more of our projects turn to streaming technology as a way to reduce the budget of a project. With the technology that exists now, it is very easy to communicate while on set even if we have a director in Argentina, a creative agency in France and a client in Japan. Sounds farfetched? It’s a lot more simple than it sounds. Get in touch to find out how we can facilitate your commercial production with ease in New Zealand.

New Zealand’s scenery is internationally renowned and unique, often lending itself as an alternative world or time, and in doing so never looking out of place.

Our country is famous for its almost overwhelming range of incredible locations; deserts, volcanoes, mountains, endless coastlines, forests and modern and historic cities. The best part of our diverse landscape is everything is within an arms reach. In one day you can be on top of a mountain range, then within thick native forest and out on the coastline or down a river bed.

With fantasy worlds loved by millions of fans, our stunning and easy-to-access locations also “double as” US, UK, Asian and European settings. You don’t have to travel far for diverse looks and with seasons opposite to the Northern Hemisphere, you can shoot snow in July or wheat fields in February.

Below are some examples of the diversity of locations within our home – those of which are all easily accessible.

My favorite parts about “The Battle of Five Armies” were the moments where you could clearly see that we were looking at New Zealand. That it wasn’t done in post, it wasn’t CGI, it was the beautiful, incredible creation of Mother Nature in all of her splendor.
