With a background in devised theatre, Jackie fell in love with filmmaking in her thirties. After writing and directing a collection of short films, she premiered her first feature film ‘The Inland Road’ in competition at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival. Her second feature ‘The Breaker Upperers’ (created with Madeleine Sami) premiered to rave reviews at SXSW, opened the 2018 Sydney Film Festival and sold to Netflix US.
Jackie also co-created the hit NZ TV series ‘Educators’ with comedians Jonny Brugh and Jesse Griffin. It sold to Channel 7 in Australia, was dubbed by the NZ Herald as “morbidly hysterical…and funny as f**k” and recently won a Bronze World Medal at the 2020 New York Festivals. As an actor she is best known for her role as the desperate familiar in Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s vampire documentary, ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ and from her own projects playing Jen in ‘The Breaker Upperers’ and flailing careers advisor, Robyn, in ‘Educators’.
Jackie’s directed on two of Taika and Jemaine’s television spin-offs, ‘Wellington Paranormal’ (NZ) and ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ (US). Jackie and Madeleine were named TimeOut NZ Entertainers of the Year, 2018.
Jackie has approached comedy from almost every angle: as a writer, actor, and Director. The consistent element throughout all of her work is highly nuanced casting and performance with a gentle, lyrical touch. You are going to love working with Jackie - there's no doubt about that!
