Curtis has worked in the New Zealand film, television and commercial industries for the last ten years. His debut feature film Fantail won over crowds both at home and overseas screening at a number of international film festivals. Fantail was nominated for 8 New Zealand Film Awards including Best Director and Best Film and was invited to have its world premiere at Rotterdam International Film Festival.
The film was also selected for the Melbourne International Film Festival, winning a People’s Choice award and was a local box office success. Curtis’ other recent directing credits include a series of award winning short films for Auckland Museum’s Taku Tāmaki exhibition, the documentary Manawa Ora and web series $1 Reserve.
Curtis has most recently directed commercial projects for Air New Zealand, Tourism New Zealand, Kia, Colgate and Bargain Box
He currently has two feature films in development with the New Zealand Film Commission; Manmade, which shoots mid 2018 and Baby, Done which has secured early development funding.
Curtis has the right mix of obsessive commitment, curiosity and sensitivity as well as a deep appreciation of the actor / director relationship.
